The working port of Hayle, West Cornwall is on the innermost part of St Ives Bay with its three miles of sandy beaches. Life guards are on patrol during the summer and in spring and autumn the firm beaches are often used for land speed sailing.

The estuary and Lelant Saltings are important bird sanctuaries
