| On the coast of North Devon, close to Exmoor, the Victorians called this area the "Little Switzerland of England". The scenery is breath-taking with streams, rivers, small bays, tree clad cliffs and moorlands. The village of Lynton has shops, tea rooms and cafes and is connected to the resort of Lynmouth nestling beneath the cliffs, by a water operated cliff railway 900 feet long, with a gradient of 30 degrees. The harbour of Lynmouth is pretty, even romantic. Read the story of how the lifeboat was taken on a difficult journey overland so that it could be safely launched. Close by is the spectacular Valley of the Rocks, a wonderful area of weathered rock formations with a herd of wild goats and spectacular views out to sea. Upriver is the famous beauty spot of Watersmeet where you can enjoy the scenery and dramatic waterfalls. Exmoor has over 600 miles of marked footpaths. Ponies, red deer and sheep graze freely while falcons and buzzards fly overhead. Lynton and Lynmouth, beautiful in themselves, also off an ideal centre for all resorts and towns on the north coast of Devon.
