Teignmouth in South Devon boasts a lovely promenade with a long sandy beach on one side and well tended flower beds on the other. Here you will find the popular pier, the children's paddling pools and rides, the peaceful bowling green and, further on, the River Teign estuary where you can watch the movement of different craft, large and small, sail and power. Bathing, except in the immediate area of the river mouth is quite safe. The interesting and lively river beach has waterside inns, fishing boats and beach huts. It is from here that you can take the passenger ferry to nearby Shaldon a lovely old village; taking the ferry can avoid problems with parking. With its parks and cliff walks, outdoor swimming pool, cafes, bars and restaurants, Teignmouth is one of the most popular resorts in Devon. A feature is the public art high'lighted' by the attractive 'Making Waves' lights which flow with changing colours, giving the town a special character at night. Teignmouth is well
placed to take advantage of South and East Devon and, if you really fancy
some fresh air, Dartmoor is a short drive away. Visitors find the excellent
road and rail links ease the start and end of their holidays.
