| Torquay in South Devon is at the heart of the English Riviera, and since Victorian times has had the motto "Salus et felicitas", meaning "Health and happiness". What more could you ask for in a holiday destination? Torquay has something for all ages and pockets, ranging from beaches through to marinas, bingo to a casino, cinemas to night-clubs! Today Torquay is a modern tourist resort, and is in no way run down as many other British tourist resorts have sadly become. Instead it is a fun, vibrant modern resort equally capable of entertaining a young family, or a couple on a romantic weekend away. Various boat trips are available: the ferry to Brixham takes half an hour across the bay; there are evening cruises and an all day River Dart Cruise with time spent in Dartmouth. For the more energetic there are speedboat trips and banana and ringo rides. Despite being the English Riviera it can rain (occasionally!), however there is still a multitude of things to do, with probably enough high quality attractions locally to sustain a month long holiday! Dartmoor and Exeter (cathedral city) are only a short drive away, whilst there are a number of very scenic local villages, such as Shaldon and Cockington. |
